There is no standard ranking of suits in all the poker games. Based on the location the order of suits may differ even within the exact poker variant. There exist two common conventions as follows:
• Reverse Alphabetical order: This ranking is used in the bridge game. Clubs (the lowest), is followed by the diamonds, the hearts, and the spades (the highest).
• Alternative colors: This ranking is used in the Chinese card games. The diamonds which is the lowest is followed by clubs, the hearts, and the spades (the highest). Cards are first compared by the ranks and then by suits. High card by suit is used for breaking the ties between the poker hands. Based on the circumstance of a game, the high card by suit is used for the situations as follows:
• Assigning the bring-in In the low stud game such as razz, the player having the highest ranking up card is forced to post the fractional bet.
• Random selection of players Each player is dealt with one card and the one who is having the high card by suit is selected for the deal, or for moving to another table or for many other reasons.
• Awarding the odd chips in split pots The pot should be split evenly between the players when the hands of two players met with a tie. In case, if the pot has an odd amount of money, the pot can not be split evenly. Now based on the suit, the player who has the high card is eligible to get the low denomination chip.
• Tie breaking in chip race The chip race in poker tournament is used to color up the large number of the smaller denomination chips. The left over chips are being assigned by the modified deal. Suits break the ties during any deal.
